Strong Roots, New Growth Leaders Program
The Strong Roots, New Growth Leaders Program aims to weave a community of learning and action, supporting land-owners and -stewards from historically underserved groups in learning how to access, retain, and care for land. Join us and be part of this inaugural cohort!
How It Works
Apply! We’re excited to learn about you. → Apply
We’ll announce cohort members in April and will celebrate at the BLACC conference in Ithaca, April 10-12: Bridging Land, Agriculture, and Communities Conference. → Register for BLACC
Starting later in April, the cohort will meet once a month on a Saturday morning – in person when we can, online sometimes. We’ll learn with and from one another, read and watch useful resources, and get our hands dirty together.
Each Leader earns $150 per Saturday session they attend (for a maximum total of $1800). We also will offer on-site childcare, transport reimbursement, and food at in-person sessions.
In between sessions, we invite you to keep learning, practicing, and connecting!
Advocacy and Action
One important goal of this program is to amplify the skills, wisdom, and voice of participants to build a stronger call for land justice, which we define as centering racial, social, and ecological healing in decisions about how land is used, governed, and tended. We borrow our definition from the organization Land Justice Futures, which also spells out three components of land justice: protecting land from extraction and harm; working to heal and regenerate land; and expanding equity in land access and governance. You are an important part of this work and our program exists to support your leadership.
